ALGIERS, Oct 2, 2025 – Algeria’s culture and arts minister Malika Bendouda on Wednesday opened the 17th Algiers International Comics Festival (FIBDA), held this year under the theme “Children’s Edition.”
She called the festival a “key cultural event” and said comics can attract youth to reading, while stressing that festivals must become self-sustaining cultural and economic productions rather than relying only on state budgets.
The event features exhibitions, including a Palestinian solidarity project curated by Spanish artist Pedro Rojo Pérez, and awards for young and professional comic creators.
Running until October 5, the festival hosts artists from Egypt – this year’s guest of honor – as well as Spain, the United States, Canada, Japan, Palestine, Tunisia, Lebanon, Mexico, Cameroon and Slovenia.
