Best Works Awarded at 5th Annaba Mediterranean Film Festival

ANNABA, 1 October, 2025 – The 5th Annaba Mediterranean Film Festival wrapped up on Tuesday evening, at Azzedine Medjoubi Regional Theater, with awards presented to the best films in three categories: short films, feature films, and documentaries.

In the short film competition, the jury awarded the Golden Gazelle to the Algerian film “Sans vous” directed by Nadjib Oulebsir.

The Silver Gazelle went to “Affaire d’honneur” by Oussama Koubi from Algeria, while special jury mentions were given to Palestine’s “Waad Saghir” (Little Promise) and the Algerian-Palestinian co-production “Achr dakaik asghar” (10 Minutes Younger).

For the feature films, the Golden Gazelle was won by the Turkish film “When the Walnut Turns Yellow,” and the jury prize went to the Syrian film “Day Zero.”

Actor Salim Kechiouche received the Best Actor award for his role in “Bin u bin,” while the Best Actress award was given to Italian actress Lucia Sardo.

The Spanish film “The Pheasant Island” earned Best Director award, the Cypriot film “Africa Star” took the Best Screenplay prize, and the Greek film “Wishbone” received a special jury mention.

In the documentary category, the Lebanese film “Confessions of an Egypt…” received recognition.

The Amar El Askri Prize for the best documentary was awarded to the Algerian film “El Mokh,” directed by Salimani Mohamed Cherif and Younès Boudali.

Another festival award, recognizing artificial intelligence, went to the Tunisian film “Nafass bin nafassaïne” (Between Two Breaths) by Zoubeir Jelassi.

The closing ceremony featured a moment of silence honoring the late Algerian artist Faouzi Saïchi, with cultural figures and diplomats, including a representative from the Spanish embassy in Algeria.
