Germany : A Palestinian State Is Our Goal, We Support the Two-State Solution

Germany on Monday reiterated its commitment to the creation of an independent Palestinian state, while stopping short of granting formal recognition. “A Palestinian state is our goal. We support the two-state solution. There is no other way. This, however, must be achieved through negotiations. No one should pursue a policy of forcing their way through a wall at this point,” Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said in Berlin before heading to New York for the 80th UN General Assembly.

Wadephul stressed that the “path of understanding, reconciliation, and negotiations” remains the only viable option, despite being long and difficult. He affirmed that Germany continues to support a negotiated two-state solution as the framework that can ensure peace, security, and dignity for both peoples. His remarks came as the UK, Canada, Australia, and Portugal formally recognized the state of Palestine on Sunday, with France, Malta, and Luxembourg expected to follow suit at the UN gathering. Leaders are also set to take part in an international conference focused on the peaceful resolution of the Palestinian issue and the implementation of the two-state framework.

The German foreign minister also issued a warning to the Zionist entity over potential annexation moves in occupied Palestinian territories, stressing that such actions would violate international law and undermine prospects for a lasting peace. He further called for an immediate ceasefire and increased humanitarian aid for Gaza, emphasizing that the region urgently needs steps toward de-escalation rather than measures that entrench division.
