President Ghali Reaffirms Sahrawi Right to Self-Determination in Meeting with de Mistura

The President of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Brahim Ghali, reaffirmed Sunday, during his meeting with the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary General for Western Sahara, Staffan de Mistura, that any solution that fails to respect the Sahrawi people’s will is “completely rejected.”

During his meeting with Staffan de Mistura at the headquarters of the Presidency of the Sahrawi Republic, Brahim Ghali emphasized the determination of the Polisario Front to continue its cooperation with the efforts of the United Nations and the African Union (AU) in order to achieve a peaceful, just and lasting solution, allowing the decolonization of Western Sahara, last colony on the African continent, in accordance with the objectives and principles of the United Nations Charter, its resolutions, as well as the objectives and principles of the Constitutive Act of the AU and the relevant rules of international law, said the Sahrawi Press Agency (SPS).

In this regard, Ghali reiterated the commitment of the Polisario Front to engage constructively and positively in the peace process sponsored by the United Nations in Western Sahara.

He affirmed that the unique path for the realization of a peaceful, just and lasting settlement passes through the exercise by the Sahrawi people of their inalienable and imprescriptible right to self-determination and independence, in complete freedom and democracy, emphasizing that any solution that fail to respect the will of the Sahrawi people is “totally rejected.”

He warned against the serious danger that this could represent for peace, security and stability in the entire region.
