Palestine welcomes Portugal’s support for two-state solution through official recognition

The Palestinian Foreign Ministry welcomed on Saturday Portugal’s decision to officially recognize the State of Palestine on Sunday, considering it a “courageous step” that is consistent with international law and United Nations resolutions and supports efforts to achieve peace and implement the two-state solution, WAFA news agency reported.
In a statement, the Ministry expressed gratitude to all countries that have announced their intention to recognize the State of Palestine, while urging others to act swiftly in support of a two-state solution.
The Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the decision in a statement on Friday, adding that the Official Declaration of Recognition will take place even before next week’s High-Level Conference.
Foreign Minister Paulo Rangel already said this week that the country was considering the recognition of a Palestinian state during a visit to the UK.
