US Veto Sinks UN Security Council Gaza Ceasefire Bid

The UN Security Council on Thursday failed to adopt a draft resolution calling for a ceasefire and humanitarian access in the Gaza Strip after the United States cast its veto.

The text, tabled by the Council’s ten elected members, won 14 votes in favor but was blocked by Washington. It came in response to the UN’s recent declaration of famine in Gaza, where the Zionist entity has imposed a tight blockade since March 2, closing all crossings and preventing food and medical aid from entering.

The draft demanded an “immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire, unrestricted humanitarian access and also addressed the issue of hostages.”
