Real Madrid’s Alexander-Arnold Sidelined with Thigh Injury

Real Madrid’s English full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold will be out for several weeks with a thigh injury, the Spanish club announced Wednesday.
The former Liverpool player, who joined Madrid this summer, limped off just four minutes into Tuesday’s Champions League clash against Marseille (2-1) after clutching the back of his left thigh. He was replaced by captain Dani Carvajal.
While the club did not specify the length of his absence, Spanish media report the 25-year-old could miss six to eight weeks.
Madrid face further defensive problems after Carvajal was sent off for headbutting Marseille goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli, a red card that could earn him at least a two-match ban.
Coach Xabi Alonso is expected to turn to Uruguayan midfielder Federico Valverde, who has previously filled in at right-back, to cover the gap in upcoming Champions League matches against Kairat Almaty and Juventus.
