Algeria Advocates for a More Cooperative and Proactive AIPU from Cairo

Brahim Boughali, President of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU) and head of the Algerian People’s National Assembly (PNA), called on Tuesday from Cairo, Egypt, for a more united and proactive AIPU, as stated in a release from the PNA.
In his opening address at the 39th session of the AIPU Executive Committee, Boughali urged that the AIPU be transformed into “an integrated parliamentary platform that embodies the strength of collective positions and translates them into concrete initiatives aimed at enhancing economic and social integration among Arab countries.”
He emphasized that “the responsibilities of the Union should not be confined to political positions; they must also encompass the promotion of Arab solidarity, the strengthening of legislative cooperation and oversight, as well as the support of sustainable development efforts, which are essential for stability and prosperity.”
In this context, Boughali reaffirmed Algeria’s commitment to continue supporting the Union’s objectives during its current presidency, ensuring it remains a unifying platform for Arab aspirations and a cohesive voice advocating for just causes on the international stage.
Highlighting “the sensitivity of the regional and international context surrounding this meeting, particularly in light of the escalating challenges facing the Arab world, with the Palestinian issue at the forefront,” he remarked that “the tragedy in Gaza is not merely a humanitarian crisis, but rather a stark manifestation of occupation characterized by murder, displacement, blockade, and famine.”
The AIPU president referenced UN reports indicating that “the Gaza Strip is undergoing a planned famine, occurring under the watchful gaze of the world and in blatant violation of international law,” lamenting that “what is transpiring in Palestine constitutes a comprehensive war crime and organized terrorism.”
He pointed out that this situation “places full responsibility on the authorities of the Zionist occupation,” asserting that “the silence of the international community only serves to embolden their arrogance.”
Consequently, he called for “the unification of Arab parliamentary positions to confront and denounce these actions,” affirming that “supporting the resistance of the Palestinian people is a national, moral, and religious duty.”
For Boughali, “any settlement that overlooks the legitimate right of Palestine to establish its independent state with Al-Quds as its capital is destined to fail.”
