Vance Urges Musk to Stay Loyal to Trump’s Republican Party Amid Third-Party Speculation

US Vice President JD Vance on Wednesday called on billionaire Elon Musk to remain committed to the Republican Party, warning that launching a third party would undermine his political influence. Speaking to Fox News, Vance advised Musk to “fix the Republican Party” from within rather than attempting to reshape American politics through an alternative platform. He stressed that Musk could have greater impact by staying loyal to President Donald Trump’s Republican Party, even while voicing disagreements.

The remarks came after a Wall Street Journal report revealed that Musk had put plans for his proposed “America Party” on hold. Musk had announced the project in July on his platform X, presenting it as a way to restore Americans’ “freedom.” Criticizing the two-party system, Musk wrote: “When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy.” Earlier this year, Musk faced criticism for sweeping cost-cutting policies linked to the Trump administration, which were described as reckless.

Vance also warned Musk about his political image, stating that his positions on law and order, border security, and economic growth firmly place him on the American right, making bipartisan appeal unlikely. Speculation over a potential 2028 presidential run with Musk’s backing has circulated, though Vance denied having discussions with the billionaire on the matter. Despite distancing himself from the Trump administration after public clashes, Musk has continued donating to Republican candidates, underlining his enduring influence within the party.
