UN Condemns Zionist Settlement Expansion and Urges Immediate Gaza Ceasefire

The United Nations has sharply condemned the Zionist decision to approve thousands of new housing units in the occupied West Bank while simultaneously calling for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. UN Secretary-General António Guterres voiced his concerns following the announcement of Zionist plans for both settlement expansion and a potential military aggression on Gaza City.
Speaking at the African Development Conference in Japan, Guterres stressed the urgent need to halt hostilities in Gaza to prevent further death and destruction. He also condemned the approval of more than 3,400 new housing units in the E1 area of the West Bank, describing the move as illegal under international law and a direct threat to the two-State solution. The UN warned that this settlement expansion could divide the northern and southern West Bank, undermining territorial continuity in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.
The Secretary-General reiterated his call for the Zionist forces to immediately stop settlement activity and comply fully with their obligations under international law, in line with UN resolutions and the International Court of Justice’s Advisory Opinion of July 19, 2024. He warned that halting both military escalation in Gaza and settlement expansion in the West Bank is essential to preserving peace prospects in the region.
