
ALGIERS – The High Command of the Algerian Army has mobilised Monday several Air Force aircraft to contribute to the efforts to extinguish wildfires that break out in the province of Bejaia (263-km east of Algiers), which were contained without any casualties, the Ministry of National Defence said Tuesday in a statement.
“As part of the missions carried out by the detachments and units of the People’s National Army in response to natural disasters, and following the outbreak of wildfires in the province of Bejaia (the Fifth Military Region), affecting hard-to-reach forest areas,” the High Command of the People’s National Army mobilised on Monday, 18 August 2025, several Air Force aircraft to participate in the fire extinguishing efforts in the region of Taourirt Ighil, sub-province of Adekar, at the military sector of Bejaia in the 5th MR,” the statement said.
“The fires in this hard-to-reach forest areas were contained without any human loss or material damage,” the statement added.
“The response of the different detachments of the People’s National Army came in support of the efforts of the various services involved in firefighting operations, including the Civil Protection and the provincial Forestry Department.”
