China Grants $1.5 Million to UNRWA in Support of Palestinian Refugees

RAMALLAH – China’s Ambassador to the State of Palestine, Cheng Jixin, signed an annual grant agreement with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) worth US$1.5 million. The signing took place at UNRWA’s headquarters in Amman, Jordan.

Ambassador Cheng highlighted China’s ongoing support for UNRWA’s mandate, noting that Beijing has consistently provided both financial and medical assistance to the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and other areas where the Agency operates, while steadily increasing its annual contributions. He underscored that China’s support for UNRWA, dating back to the Agency’s founding in the late 1940s, is rooted in its unwavering backing of the Palestinian cause and its advocacy for a just and comprehensive resolution to the conflict.

Cheng praised UNRWA’s services to roughly six million Palestinian refugees in the West Bank, Gaza, and abroad, stressing that the international community must not ignore the dire humanitarian situation facing the Palestinian people. He called for greater global financial and medical assistance to UNRWA, reaffirming China’s role as a steadfast friend of the Palestinian people and its commitment to the two-state solution as the basis for achieving a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace.
