Sahrawi PM: Only Democratic Solution Aligned with International Legitimacy Ensures Self-Determination Rights

BOUMERDES – The Sahrawi Prime Minister and member of the National Secretariat, Mr. Bouchraya Hammoudi Bayoun, affirmed that the only viable resolution to the Western Sahara conflict is a democratic one grounded in international legitimacy—specifically, the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination and independence.
Speaking at the opening of the 13th Summer University for Sahrawi Executives, the Prime Minister emphasized that the just and dignified path forward is through a democratic solution that avoids victors and vanquished. He stressed that such a solution must reject Morocco’s claims of sovereignty over Western Sahara and instead uphold the legal framework of the issue as a decolonization case.
Bouchraya reiterated the Sahrawi side’s willingness to engage in direct, serious, and credible negotiations with Morocco under UN auspices—negotiations free from preconditions and external dictates. The aim, he said, is to reach a just solution that fully respects international law and the Sahrawi people’s rights.
He added that a fair resolution to the conflict would create opportunities for lasting peace, regional integration, and shared prosperity for all Maghreb peoples, within a framework of justice, legality, and solidarity.
