U.S. President Donald Trump said Wednesday that Washington is considering Ukraine’s request for additional Patriot air defense systems, noting their high cost.
“They [Ukrainian authorities] have requested it. These are very rare systems, as many have already been sent to Ukraine,” Trump said during a meeting with leaders from Gabon, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mauritania, and Senegal at the White House. “We will have to study this request. It’s an extremely expensive system.”
Trump added: “It’s unfortunate we have to spend all this money on a war that wouldn’t have happened if I were president.” He reiterated the high costs, saying, “We are studying the request.”
The Wall Street Journal earlier reported that Trump is reviewing the potential delivery of an additional Patriot system to Kyiv, with the White House requesting the Pentagon to evaluate options for further military assistance and possible cooperation with Western allies.
