Algerian FM Meets Malaysian Counterpart Ahead of Regional Treaty Signing

ALGIERS — The Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, held Tuesday in Kuala Lumpur a working session with the Malaysian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohamad Hasan, ahead of his participation in the signing ceremony for Algeria’s accession to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia, taking place in Malaysia, a brotherly country, the ministry said in a statement.

The talks enabled both sides to “review the various aspects and dimensions of the Algeria-Malaysia partnership and cooperation” and to “examine ways to elevate them to higher levels commensurate with the enormous potential that both countries possess, particularly in economic fields,” the statement said.

The two foreign ministers also agreed to “begin preparations for the upcoming joint government commission sessions by pinpointing key areas for cooperation and wrapping up ongoing negotiations on several bilateral agreement projects,” according to the same source.

In this respect, both sides underscored “the need to provide full support to turn joint investment projects into reality and boost business ties between the two countries,” the statement added.

The foreign ministers also discussed key international and regional issues, with the Palestinian crisis and broader Middle East developments topping the agenda, the source said.

Following the talks, the two ministers exchanged memorandums on enhancing cooperation in diplomatic training, the ministry concluded.
