Algeria : Construction Works of Tindouf-Gara Djebilet Railway Line Completed

BECHAR – The construction works of the railway line connecting Tindouf to the Gara Djebilet iron ore deposit over 135 kilometers have been completed, the National Agency for Railway Investment Studies and Implementation (ANESRIF) said on Monday.

“The construction works of the railway section linking Tindouf to the Gara Djebilet iron ore deposit over a distance of 135 kilometers have been officially completed as scheduled,” ANESRIF’s Communications Director Abdelkader Mazzar told APS.

The new railway line, which is part of the mega-project for a mining railway connecting the country’s southwest to the north via a 950-kilometer rail link between Tindouf and Bechar, has been completed with all its infrastructure, civil engineering works, and technical equipment, he said.

“The completion of this mining railway line represents a major milestone for the exploitation of the iron ore deposit and the transport of iron ore to various processing facilities in the north of the country, as well as for export abroad,” he added.

“The completion of this line will enable the deployment of substantial logistical and human resources to the construction sites of the 575-kilometer section linking Tindouf and Hammaguir via Oum Laassel,” Mazzar added.

Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure Lakhdar Rekhroukh stated during his recent working and inspection visit to Tindouf province that this railway line would be delivered on July 5.
