Palestinian Education Ministry Urges Action to Stop Zionist Demolition of Masafer Yatta School

RAMALLAH — The Palestinian Ministry of Education and Higher Education has called on international organizations, human rights bodies, and diplomatic missions to intervene urgently to protect the right of Palestinian children to education, particularly in Masafer Yatta and other marginalized areas. The appeal comes in response to a decision by the Zionist occupation authorities to demolish the Palestine Mixed Basic School in Masafer Yatta within seven days.
In a statement issued Wednesday, the Ministry condemned the demolition order as a deliberate attempt to undermine the right to education in areas under threat of forced displacement. It warned that this decision directly jeopardizes the academic future of 130 students and constitutes a grave violation of international conventions, including the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which guarantees access to safe and stable education.
The Ministry emphasized that the demolition is part of a systematic policy targeting educational institutions in vulnerable communities. It urged human rights institutions and international organizations to take concrete actions, such as legal advocacy and diplomatic pressure, to halt the demolition and hold the occupation accountable for its continued violations.
The school, built in 2020 and serving children from kindergarten through fourth grade, is one of the “Tahadi” (Challenge) schools, which symbolize the resilience of Palestinian communities in the face of occupation policies.
