Club World Cup: Al-Hilal Stuns Manchester City 4–3 in Extra Time Thriller

Orlando, United States – Saudi side Al-Hilal advanced to the quarterfinals of the FIFA Club World Cup with a stunning 4–3 victory over English champions Manchester City after extra time on Monday at Camping World Stadium in Orlando. The match had ended 2–2 in regular time.

Al-Hilal’s goals came from Brazilians Marcos Leonardo (46′, 112′), Malcom (52′), and Senegalese defender Kalidou Koulibaly (94′). City’s scorers were Bernardo Silva (9′), Erling Haaland (55′), and substitute Phil Foden (104′).

The Saudi club will now face Brazilian side Fluminense—who defeated Inter Milan 2–0—in the quarterfinals on July 4 at the same venue.

City initially led through Silva, who netted after a chaotic deflection inside the box. Leonardo equalized early in the second half with a header, followed by a composed finish by Malcom to give Al-Hilal a 2–1 lead.

Haaland responded quickly with a strike from close range, bringing the game level again. Koulibaly then restored Al-Hilal’s advantage with a powerful header in extra time, only for Foden to respond with a volley.

But Al-Hilal had the final say as Leonardo pounced on a rebound to net the winner in the 113th minute, sealing a famous victory over Pep Guardiola’s side.
