Iran Warns U.S. Against Further Aggression Ahead of Possible Nuclear Talks

Tehran – Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs, Majid Takht-e-Ravanchi, stated Monday that Tehran is open to dialogue and diplomacy but will not tolerate further acts of aggression amid negotiations. His remarks come in the wake of U.S. airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear sites, which coincided with preparations for a new round of nuclear talks.

Speaking to the BBC, Takht-e-Ravanchi confirmed that the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump had conveyed through intermediaries its interest in resuming nuclear negotiations. However, he said Washington had “not made its position clear” regarding whether it plans to cease hostile actions during the process. “Right now, we are seeking an answer to this question: are we going to see a repetition of an act of aggression while we are engaging in dialogue?” he asked.

The recent U.S. strikes came just days before the sixth round of indirect nuclear talks between Tehran and Washington, scheduled to take place in Muscat, Oman. Tehran views the aerial attacks—carried out on June 13 and coordinated with the Zionist entity—as part of an ongoing war of aggression initiated by the Zionist entity.

Takht-e-Ravanchi reiterated Iran’s commitment to peaceful nuclear development and dismissed allegations that the country is pursuing a nuclear weapon. He emphasized that Iran has been forced to rely on its own scientific capacity due to international restrictions on nuclear material, and maintained that uranium enriched up to 60% purity remains within peaceful parameters. “The level of enrichment can be discussed, the capacity can be discussed,” he said, “but the threat that ‘you must completely abandon enrichment or else you will be bombed’ is no longer logical; this is the law of the jungle.”

He concluded by saying that while Iran seeks diplomacy, it must also remain vigilant and prepared, stressing: “We do not want war… but we have to be cautious, not to be surprised again.”
