UN General Assembly to Vote on Draft Calling for Immediate, Unconditional Gaza Ceasefire

NEW YORK — The United Nations General Assembly is set to vote on Thursday on a draft resolution demanding an immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, following the failure of the UN Security Council to adopt a similar resolution due to a US veto.
Despite Zionist pressure on member states, diplomats expect the 193-member Assembly to overwhelmingly approve the resolution. The vote is seen as a symbolic yet powerful signal of the global community’s stance, especially as it precedes a UN-hosted conference next week aimed at reviving momentum toward a two-state solution.
The vote follows last week’s US veto in the Security Council that blocked a resolution calling for the immediate and unconditional lifting of all restrictions on humanitarian aid access to Gaza. That draft also called for the safe and unimpeded distribution of aid throughout the enclave, including through UN agencies and humanitarian partners.
