Protests Erupt in Los Angeles Over ICE Raids as Trump Deploys National Guard

LOS ANGELES — For the third consecutive day, hundreds of protesters clashed with police in downtown Los Angeles on Sunday in response to ongoing immigration raids ordered by the Trump administration. Demonstrators gathered outside the federal building, demanding an end to ICE operations in the city, which they condemned as oppressive and unjust.

Tensions escalated as police used tear gas to disperse crowds and arrested dozens. Despite this, protesters held their ground. “It is a duty for each and every one of us to fight against these kidnappers,” said Nabil Shukir, referring to immigration agents. Protesters expressed concern that civil liberties were under attack and that immigrants were being targeted unfairly.

President Trump deployed 2,000 National Guard troops to Los Angeles to “address the lawlessness,” drawing criticism from California Governor Gavin Newsom and LA Mayor Karen Bass. Newsom called the move a political stunt, while Bass described it as “a chaotic escalation.” The National Guard presence could last up to 60 days, depending on the scale of continued unrest.
