Algeria Participates in 8th Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in Geneva

Algeria is participating in the 8th session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction, held by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) from June 2 to 6 in Geneva, Switzerland, the Directorate General of Civil Protection announced Thursday.

Representing the Minister of the Interior, Local Authorities, and Regional Planning, Colonel Boualem Bourelaf, Director General of Civil Protection, is attending alongside Abdelhamid Afra, the National Delegate for Major Risks. This international platform brings together UN member states, public and private sector stakeholders, and civil society to share insights and expertise on enhancing global efforts to reduce disaster risks and strengthen community resilience and adaptation.

Held under the theme “Every Day Counts: Act Today for Resilience,” the session includes a high-level ministerial roundtable titled “Safe Schools Now: Protecting Every Child from Disasters and Climate Risks.” During this event, Colonel Bourelaf will present Algeria’s experience in securing educational infrastructure against natural disasters and climate change risks, highlighting efforts in planning, awareness, and preventive infrastructure.
