UN: Over 95% of Gaza’s Farmland Destroyed Amid Growing Famine Risk

A new United Nations assessment has revealed that less than 5% of Gaza’s agricultural land remains usable, highlighting the devastating impact of ongoing destruction and severe movement restrictions on the enclave’s food production.
The report, jointly conducted by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the UN Satellite Centre, warns of a deepening food crisis that is rapidly escalating the risk of famine. The findings point to widespread devastation across Gaza’s farmlands, making the restoration of food security increasingly difficult.
Beth Bechdol, Deputy Director-General of the FAO, stressed that the situation represents more than just the loss of infrastructure. “This is the collapse of Gaza’s agricultural food system and lifelines,” she said, emphasizing the urgent need for international action to prevent further humanitarian catastrophe.
