Port Sudan Hit by Fifth Consecutive Drone Attack Amid Ongoing Army-RSF Clashes

The eastern Sudanese city of Port Sudan was targeted by a drone attack on Thursday morning, marking the fifth consecutive day of such assaults amid ongoing fighting between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
The drone reportedly targeted the headquarters of the air force college in Port Sudan. No immediate information has been released regarding casualties or damage, and there has been no official comment from the army or the RSF.
Port Sudan, located along the Red Sea, has become the temporary administrative capital and de facto seat of the Sudanese government since the outbreak of clashes with the RSF in April 2023. The RSF has been accused by Sudanese officials of launching drone attacks on civilian infrastructure in northern cities, such as Merowe, Dongola, Dabba, and Atbara, since the conflict began.
The battle for control of Sudan between the army and RSF has resulted in widespread devastation, claiming over 20,000 lives and displacing 15 million people, according to the UN and local authorities. However, US scholars estimate the death toll to be closer to 130,000. The conflict has triggered one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises.
