All Flights at Port Sudan Airport Canceled Following Drone Attack

All flights at Port Sudan Airport have been canceled in the wake of a drone attack, according to various media reports on Tuesday.

An airport representative stated that the strike targeted an area designated for civil aviation. Until now, this airport was the only one operating international flights. There has been no information released regarding potential casualties.

Almost simultaneously with the airport incident, the Marina Hotel, located in downtown Port Sudan, was also struck in an aerial assault. A hotel official reported that a rocket was fired at the establishment. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among guests, which included several medical teams from Saudi Arabia.

Additionally, early in the morning, a petroleum depot near the seaport was targeted in a drone attack, igniting a massive fire. The Sudanese Ministry of Energy confirmed that the flames affected the main strategic depot as well as four additional oil tanks.

The Sudanese army has attributed responsibility for these attacks to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

The conflict in Sudan, which erupted on April 15, 2023, between the Sudanese army and the RSF, has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths, displaced 13 million people, and plunged certain regions into famine, leading the UN to describe it as “the worst humanitarian catastrophe” in the world.
