38th Congress of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (UIPA) to be Held on May 3-4 in Algiers

Algeria is set to host the 38th Congress of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (UIPA) on May 3 and 4 at Abdelatif Rahal International Conference Center (CIC) in Algiers. This congress will focus on addressing strategic issues concerning the Arab nation, with particular emphasis on the Palestinian cause, as outlined in a communiqué from the Algerian People’s National Assembly (APN).

Official invitations have been dispatched to all Arab parliaments to participate in this important parliamentary gathering. The meeting aims to provide a platform for discussing critical strategic matters in light of both regional and international developments, as well as the significant challenges confronting the region. This includes the recent dramatic changes related to the Palestinian issue and ongoing violations against the Palestinian people in the occupied territories and the Gaza Strip, according to the statement.

During the congress, the UIPA intends to adopt resolutions that reflect the historical responsibilities of Arab parliaments.

In preparation for the congress, the UIPA’s Executive Bureau will convene for its 38th session on May 2 to review financial and administrative reports and finalize the agenda for the congress. Additionally, a preparatory meeting is planned for the presidents of parliaments, along with commission meetings within the union.

Approximately 250 participants are expected to attend, including presidents of Arab parliaments, heads of parliamentary delegations, members of the UIPA Executive Bureau, delegations from member parliaments, and representatives from regional and international organizations serving as observers.

The final day of the proceedings will be dedicated to drafting the final declaration, adopting an action plan and budget for the union for the fiscal year 2025, and presenting the Arab Parliamentary Excellence Awards.

The congress will conclude with a final declaration and recommendations from the commissions, reaffirming the commitment of Arab parliaments to uphold their role in supporting national causes and fostering collective Arab parliamentary action.
