Algerian Army Arrests Six Terrorist Supporters, Foils Drug Smuggling from Morocco

Algiers – Units and detachments of the Algerian People’s National Army (ANP) carried out multiple operations across the country, arresting six individuals who provided support to terrorist groups, in the period of 23-29 April. These operations were part of the ANP’s sustained efforts to combat terrorism and organized crime, the PNA said Wednesday in a press release.

The report emphasizes that these successful operations demonstrate the professionalism, vigilance, and constant readiness of Algeria’s armed forces across the national territory. In the fight against terrorism, ANP units managed to apprehend six individuals aiding terrorist organizations during various operations.

In addition, combined ANP detachments, working with other security services, intensified their crackdown on drug trafficking. They intercepted 38 drug traffickers and thwarted attempts to smuggle 991 kilograms of processed cannabis originating from the Moroccan border. They also seized 105,102 psychotropic pills.

Further operations in Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, In Salah, and Djanet led to the arrest of 689 individuals and the confiscation of 24 vehicles, 355 power generators, 176 jackhammers, 3 metal detectors, along with quantities of raw gold mixed with stones, explosives, detonating devices, and illegal gold mining equipment.

Additionally, 19 other individuals were arrested, and authorities seized two automatic pistols, four hunting rifles, over 60,000 liters of fuel, 20 quintals of tobacco, and three tons of food products intended for smuggling and speculative trade.

The Algerian Coast Guard also foiled several illegal immigration attempts, rescuing 122 individuals aboard makeshift boats along the national coast. Meanwhile, 856 illegal immigrants of various nationalities were arrested across the country.
