Algeria-EU Talks on Cooperation in New Energy, Renewables

ALGIERS – The Secretary of State to the Minister of Energy, responsible for Renewable Energy, Noureddine Yassaâ, received on Tuesday the Director General for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region and Gulf countries at the European Commission, Stefano Sannino.
They discussed ways to strengthen partnership in the field of new and renewable energy, according to a communiqué from the Ministry of Energy, Mines, and Renewable Energy.
The meeting, held at the ministry’s headquarters, brought together the Ambassador of the European Union (EU) to Algeria, ministry officials, and representatives of the European Commission. The talks centered on ways to boost the strategic partnership between Algeria and the EU in the field of new and renewable energy, as part of ongoing energy dialogue.
The meeting provided an opportunity to assess the progress made in bilateral cooperation, particularly in the areas of developing renewable energy and green hydrogen projects, as well as supporting the energy transition, promoting energy efficiency, and reducing emissions. It also emphasized the importance of adopting clean, modern and sustainable technologies in this sector.
The two parties also discussed regional initiatives aimed at encouraging green investment and supporting the energy transition in Mediterranean Basin countries, including projects that promote innovation, facilitate the integration of startups and small businesses into the renewable energy system. They also exchanged views on support for training and human resource development, and the localization of the energy equipment and component industry, with a focus on technology transfer and European expertise.
