UNSC Support for Sahrawi Self-Determination Rebukes Occupier’s Propaganda

New York (United Nations) – Sidi Mohamed Omar, member of the National Secretariat, Polisario Front’s representative at the United Nations and coordinator with MINURSO, affirmed that the Security Council’s closed-door consultations held Monday regarding the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) confirm that the Sahrawi issue remains firmly on the UN agenda.

Speaking to Algerian national television, Omar rejected the Moroccan occupying state’s propaganda, which seeks to mislead domestic opinion by claiming the Sahrawi issue has been “closed” at the UN level—especially in light of Washington’s recent reiteration of support for Morocco’s expansionist agenda, a stance he said contradicts the principles of the UN Charter.

Omar emphasized that the very fact the Security Council convened consultations—including with U.S. participation—and that several Council members reaffirmed the necessity of a peaceful, just, and lasting solution guaranteeing the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination, stands as a clear rebuttal to the recent positions of the French and American governments and to Moroccan misinformation.

He concluded by stressing that the Western Sahara issue will not and cannot be considered resolved so long as the Sahrawi people are denied their legitimate and inalienable right to self-determination and independence.
