Air Algérie Sets Sights on Becoming Top African Airline

ALGIERS — Air Algérie CEO Hamza Benhamouda affirmed that the national carrier aims to become a leading airline in Africa, noting that their commercial strategy, especially their pricing policy for African and European routes, has shown positive results.

“Air Algérie is pursuing an aggressive commercial policy, emphasizing good value for money. Our pricing and baggage policies are designed to attract a wider customer base. We provide competitive fares with shorter layovers from Algiers, allowing us to compete with direct flights between African and European capitals,” he said in an interview with the news website Afrik.com.

Benhamouda said that this approach has enabled the airline to achieve a 34% growth in passenger numbers between 2019 and 2024, underscoring his determination to maintain this momentum to establish Air Algérie as a pan-African aviation leader.

He further highlighted the considerable growth potential of air transport in Africa and expressed Air Algérie’s desire to play a key role in developing and expanding the industry across the continent.
