
ALGIERS – A terrorist surrendered to the military authorities of Bordj Badji Mokhtar, and five (9) terrorist supporters were arrested in separate operations nationwide by detachments of the People’s National Army (PNA) in the period of April 2-8, the PNA said Wednesday in a press release.
“As part of the ongoing counterterrorism efforts against the multifaceted organized crime, units and detachments of the People’s National Army carried out, in the period of April 2-8, several operations that led to quality results showing the professionalism, vigilance and permanent readiness of our armed forces nationwide,” said the press release.
In the fight against terrorism and thanks to the efforts of Army units, the terrorist called “Benali Boubaker” also known as “Aboubaker” surrendered to military authorities in Bordj Badji Mokhtar in the 6th Military Region, turning in one (01) Kalashnikov submachine gun, ammunition, and other items, while other PNA detachments arrested nine (09) terrorist supporters during various operations nationwide.
In the fight against organized crime, “the sustained efforts to counter the scourge of drug trafficking in our country, combined Army detachments have intercepted, in coordination with different security services, in operations carried out in various military regions, (37) drug traffickers and thwarted attempts to introduce one quintal and (65) kilograms of cannabis resin from the borders with Morocco, while (42.57) kilograms of cocaine and (220810) psychotropic tablets were seized.”
In Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar and In Salah, PNA detachments “arrested (248) individuals and seized (23) vehicles, (153) power generators, (91) jackhammers, (03) metal detectors, as well as quantities of raw gold and stone mixture, explosives, detonation tools and equipment used in illegal gold panning operations.”
“(13) other individuals were arrested and (1) kalashnikov (01) automatic pistol, (10) hunting rifles, (45,180) litres of fuel, as well as (23) quintals of tobacco and (2.83) tonnes of food products intended for smuggling and speculation were seized during various operations.”
“The Coast Guards foiled, along our national coasts, attempts at illegal emigration and rescued (89) individuals aboard makeshift boats, while (494) illegal immigrants of different nationalities were arrested across the national territory,” concluded the press release.
