Sonatrach’s CEO Holds High-Level Meetings with Global Energy Officials in Italy

Rachid Hachichi, the CEO of Algerian oil company Sonatrach, conducted a series of high-level meetings on Tuesday with executives from international energy companies as part of his participation in the OMC Med Energy Conference 2025, which is being held in Italy from April 8 to 10, according to a statement from the Group.
During the conference, Hachichi met with Julien Pouget, the Director of Exploration and Production for TotalEnergies in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. Their discussions centered on various aspects of their collaboration in exploration and production, noting that Sonatrach and TotalEnergies are actively engaged in contractual areas such as TFT II, TFT South, Timimoun, and Berkine under existing agreements.
The CEO of Sonatrach also held talks with Lorenzo Simonelli, CEO of the American company Baker Hughes, and Paolo Borri, Vice President of Project Execution at the Italian firm Tecnimont. These conversations focused on assessing several strategic projects within the energy sector, including the Boosting project at the Hassi R’Mel field, the development of the linear alkylbenzene (LAB) petrochemical complex in Skikda, and the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) extraction complex in Rhoud El-Baguel (Ouargla).
In addition, he participated in discussions led by Mohamed Arkab, Minister of State, Minister of Energy, Mines, and Renewable Energies, with Claudio Descalzi, CEO of the Italian company ENI. This meeting reviewed the partnership between Sonatrach and ENI, particularly in hydrocarbon exploration and development, while also exploring opportunities to broaden this collaboration to include new projects focused on offshore hydrocarbon exploitation, renewable energy, green hydrogen production, and innovative solutions for reducing carbon emissions.
Furthermore, Hachichi was part of the ministerial delegation accompanying Arkab during talks with Egyptian Petroleum and Mineral Resources Minister Karim Badawi on the sidelines of the event.
These high-level meetings underscore “Sonatrach’s commitment to enhancing its international presence and expanding its strategic partnerships with key global players in the energy sector, aligning with intensified efforts towards energy transition and the Group’s vision for sustainable development rooted in innovation and international cooperation,” the statement concluded.
