Iran applauds Algeria’s courageous positions for Palestinian people at Security Council

ALGIERS -The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Abbas Araghchi, affirmed that his country commends the courageous positions of Algeria and President Abdelmadjid Tebboune in supporting the Palestinian people at the United Nations (UN) Security Council.

Speaking to the press ahead of a meeting with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Araghchi described the encounter as “cordial” and said he conveyed greetings from the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Iranian people to the Algerian President, renewing an invitation for him to visit Tehran.

The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss regional developments, particularly the situation in Palestine and the crimes committed by the Zionist entity against the Palestinian people and the residents of Gaza, he explained.

In this context, Iran’s Foreign Minister praised “the brave positions of Algeria and President Abdelmadjid Tebboune in support of the Palestinian people at the United Nations and the Security Council,” expressing gratitude for these efforts. “We hope that cooperation between Muslim countries and nations in the region will help stop the crimes committed by the Zionist entity against the Palestinian people,” the Iranian official said.

Turning to bilateral ties, which he described as “deep, rooted, fraternal, and strong,” Araghchi highlighted the “convergence of views” between Algeria and Iran on regional and international issues, noting ongoing consultations at both regional and global levels. The meeting also allowed for discussions on all bilateral matters, including economic cooperation, political consultations, and collaboration in international forums, he said.

After paying respects to the memory of Algeria’s shouhada (martyrs), the Iranian official emphasized that “bilateral relations and exchanges of visits by political delegations between the two countries are ongoing.” He reiterated his call for “a visit by the President of the Republic to Tehran this year.”
