Iran Accuses UNHRC of Political Bias and Double Standards

The High Council for Human Rights in Iran has accused the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) of clear political bias, pointing to the adoption of numerous resolutions against Iran while ignoring significant human rights violations in other countries. The report criticized the UNHRC for violating the principle of neutrality, questioning its legitimacy and asserting that inconsistent responses to global human rights violations undermine the universality of human rights and the credibility of international institutions.
The report argued that the varied responses to human rights violations around the world have raised questions not only about the universality of these rights but also about the policymaking of powerful countries and international bodies. It noted that political interests have driven this inconsistency, eroding trust in human rights mechanisms and undermining their legitimacy.
Further, the report criticized Western countries, particularly the United States, for imposing sanctions on Iran, which it described as “economic terrorism” and “pharmaceutical terrorism,” violating fundamental human rights. It also condemned the silence of international institutions in the face of these violations. Additionally, the report highlighted the targeted killings of Iranian scientists, including Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, Dariush Rezaeinejad, and Majid Shahriari, suggesting foreign support for organized terrorism. The Iranian High Council for Human Rights urged the UNHRC to conduct impartial investigations into human rights violations across all nations, including Western allies, rather than using its platform as a political tool for specific countries. The report concluded by emphasizing that the legitimacy of international institutions can only be upheld by adhering to legal and moral principles.
