Italian Prime Minister Meloni Calls US Tariffs on EU a “Wrong Measure”

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni condemned the US decision to impose tariffs on European Union goods, calling it a “wrong measure” that does not benefit either party. Her comments followed US President Donald Trump’s announcement of a 20% tariff on EU products as part of his plan to impose reciprocal tariffs globally.

Meloni stressed the importance of reaching an agreement with the US to avoid a trade war, which could weaken the West and benefit other global players. She reiterated Italy’s commitment to working with European partners to protect national and economic interests, while Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani highlighted the harmful effects these tariffs could have on both sides of the Atlantic. Tajani also emphasized the need for constructive negotiations to address US concerns while safeguarding European interests.
