Spanish Prime Minister Urges U.S. to Reconsider Tariffs on European Goods

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has called on the U.S. administration to reconsider its decision to impose new tariffs on European goods, urging for dialogue instead of what he described as “nonsense.”
Speaking in Madrid on Friday, Sánchez directly addressed Washington, saying, “Today, from here, I want to once again call on the U.S. administration to reconsider its decision, open a dialogue with the European Commission, and put an end to this nonsense.”
The European Commission announced on Thursday that the European Union is preparing a “firm and well-thought-out” response to the tariffs.
The new trade measures were announced by former U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday, stating that the U.S. will impose a 25% tariff on imported cars. The move has drawn criticism from European leaders, who fear economic repercussions for key industries.
As tensions rise over the tariffs, European officials are expected to discuss potential countermeasures in the coming days.
