Algeria Signs a Billion Dollar Agreements at Food Expo in London

The participation of five Algerian companies at the Food and Drink Event (IFE 2025), held from March 17 to 19 in London, UK, concluded with the signing of memoranda of understanding and agreements with foreign partners valued at a total of one billion dollars, announced Mohamed Boukhari, Minister of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion, on Thursday.
During an evaluation meeting focused on Algeria’s participation in this international event, organized by the ministry, Boukhari stated that these agreements were related to investment and export sectors, particularly concerning the establishment of a fertilizer production plant and a joint methanol production facility with an annual capacity of one million tons.
The participating Algerian companies included the Strategic Agricultural Crops Development Company (DCAS) under the Ministry of Agriculture, the Souakri Group through its subsidiary “Houqoul El Djanoub” (Fields of the South), CEBON, which produces El Mordjene products, CATM, specializing in agricultural products and food industries, and the agricultural company Tahraoui.
Displayed Algerian products encompassed various types of dates, olives and olive oil, pumpkin seed oil, saffron, fresh fruits (such as oranges, tangerines, and raisins), vegetables (including cherry tomatoes, peppers, and yellow melons), along with processed goods, mineral water, and chocolate.
Regarding trade relations between Algeria and the UK, Boukhari noted that bilateral exchanges reached 1.7 billion dollars in 2024, including 1.4 billion dollars in Algerian exports, of which 185 million dollars came from non-hydrocarbon sectors, compared to 307 million dollars in imports. He emphasized that these figures “do not accurately reflect the strength of relations between the two countries.”
The minister urged for the enhancement of commercial partnerships between Algeria and the UK and expressed his desire to reactivate the Algerian-British Business Council to bolster economic cooperation.
UK Ambassador to Algeria, James Downer, commended Algeria’s participation in the exhibition, underscoring his country’s commitment to supporting Algerian companies in expanding their presence in international markets.
The IFE serves as a vital platform for promoting agri-food products. In its latest edition, the exhibition featured over 1,350 exhibitors from 100 countries.
