Former Tanzanian President Highlights Strong Algeria-Tanzania Ties

Former President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, emphasized in Algiers on Tuesday the profound ties of friendship and cooperation between Algeria and Tanzania, as well as the necessity of further strengthening these relations.

In a statement following his meeting with the Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Kikwete conveyed a special message from President Samia Suluhu of Tanzania. He noted that she expressed her satisfaction with the excellent relations binding the two countries and reaffirmed her commitment to enhancing them even further.

Kikwete highlighted the “common history” shared by Algeria and Tanzania in terms of cooperation and solidarity, recalling how founding leaders Ahmed Ben Bella of Algeria and Julius Nyerere of Tanzania laid the groundwork for these strong ties.

He added, “I am very pleased with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s receptiveness, which was evident in his references to the long-standing cooperative history between our two nations, support for liberation struggles, and collaboration aimed at fostering growth and development in Africa.”

Kikwete expressed his contentment in returning to his country bearing a “positive message” from President Tebboune to President Suluhu, noting that it “demonstrates a convergence of views on strengthening bilateral relations and promoting them to the highest level.”

He also underscored the importance of bilateral and regional cooperation within the African Union and internationally, pointing out the “convergence of perspectives between Algeria and Tanzania on various regional and international issues.”

The former Tanzanian president expressed his desire to continue working towards the prosperity of both nations and achieving sustainable development across the African continent.
