Lavrov Calls for Pan-Eurasian Platform to Strengthen Continental Cooperation

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has proposed the creation of a “pan-Eurasian” platform to facilitate regular discussions among all countries across the continent. Speaking at a meeting hosted by the Gorchakov Diplomacy Fund in Moscow, Lavrov stressed that unlike Africa and Latin America, Eurasia lacks a unified forum where nations can collectively address challenges and cooperation opportunities. He urged experts from the Gorchakov Fund to assess the feasibility of such a platform.

Lavrov framed his proposal within the broader context of global geopolitical shifts, emphasizing the rise of a “fairer multipolar world order.” He pointed to China and India as key examples of emerging power centers outside the Western sphere. The Russian diplomat criticized the West’s opposition to these developments, arguing that Western countries consistently resist efforts to democratize international relations. He reaffirmed Russia’s strategy of deepening ties with China, India, Iran, North Korea, the Commonwealth of Independent States, and various African countries.

Highlighting Russia’s diplomatic efforts, Lavrov underscored Moscow’s commitment to fostering strong political dialogues with members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, BRICS, and nations such as Türkiye, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Cuba, and Venezuela. He rejected the notion of merely promoting a “positive image” of Russia, asserting instead that Moscow seeks fair and objective recognition in the global arena.
