US Urges Iraq to Finalize Agreement for Resuming Oil Exports Through Turkey

The United States has called on Iraq to finalize an agreement with international oil companies to restart crude exports through the Iraq-Turkey Pipeline (ITP), which has been suspended for nearly a year.
State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce emphasized Washington’s push for Baghdad to reach a deal ensuring the resumption of oil exports and the honoring of existing contracts with American firms. She highlighted that reopening the ITP is crucial for global energy stability, particularly for European markets, and benefits Iraq by reinforcing supply chain resilience.
Oil exports from Iraq to Turkey’s Ceyhan Port were halted on March 25, 2023, after an arbitration ruling by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) in Paris. The ruling addressed disputes over oil exports between the two nations.
