Yemen’s Houthis announce attacking US carrier in Red Sea

The Yemeni Houthi group on Monday announced targeting a US aircraft carrier in the northern Red Sea with multiple rockets and drones for the second time in 24 hours, the group’s military spokesman, Yahya Saree, said in a televised statement.

The attack was carried out with multiple ballistic and cruise missiles and drones in “a confrontation that lasted for several hours,” Saree said, adding that the group’s forces also managed to repel the warplanes’ attack.

The Houthi spokesman warned that escalation against Yemen will be confronted with a counter-escalation.

According to the Houthis’ Al Masirah TV, the United States conducted new airstrikes, targeting the Red Sea port city of Hodeidah and Al Jawf governorate north of the capital Sanaa.

U.S. President Donald Trump launched his biggest military operation in the Middle East since taking office in January against Yemen’s Houthis on Saturday, at the start of a campaign expected to continue for weeks.

At least 53 people have been killed in the attacks, Anees Alsbahi, a spokesperson for the Houthi-run health ministry, said on Sunday. Five children and two women were among the victims, and 98 have been hurt, Alsbahi added on X.

The U.S. strikes followed threats from Yemen’s Houthis to resume raids on “Israeli-linked ships” in the Red Sea in response to the occupation’s blockade on the war-torn Gaza Strip.
