Trump Hails ‘Long and Unique Friendship’ Between US and Ireland

President Donald Trump praised the enduring friendship between the United States and Ireland on Wednesday, highlighting the deep historical ties and the contributions of Irish Americans. Speaking at a St. Patrick’s Day reception in the White House, Trump acknowledged Ireland’s Prime Minister Micheal Martin and reaffirmed the strong bond between the two nations, tracing it back to the American Revolution and the longstanding tradition of goodwill exchanges.
Trump noted that Irish heritage runs deep in American history, pointing out that half of all Congressional Medal of Honor recipients were of Irish descent. He also celebrated the influence of notable Irish Americans such as Andrew Jackson, Ronald Reagan, Walt Disney, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and Henry Ford. In his address, Martin commended Trump’s efforts in seeking peace in Ukraine and the Middle East, emphasizing Ireland’s commitment to diplomatic cooperation to resolve global conflicts.
As part of the annual tradition, Martin presented Trump with a bowl of shamrocks, symbolizing the continued friendship between the two nations. The event concluded with the two leaders posing for photographs, reinforcing the significance of the moment in strengthening US-Ireland relations.
