Iran has strongly objected to a United Nations Security Council meeting focused on its nuclear program, calling it an unjustified intervention in Tehran’s ongoing cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
Iranian Ambassador to the UN, Sa’eed Iravani, stated that the meeting was a political move aimed at prolonging what he described as a “failed and unlawful policy of maximum pressure” against Iran. He warned that such actions could undermine the credibility of the Security Council.
According to Iravani, the issues discussed at the meeting were technical matters that fall solely within the mandate of the IAEA. He pointed out that these concerns had already been addressed at the IAEA Board of Governors meeting in Vienna the previous week, arguing that there was no valid reason for Security Council involvement. He also accused certain countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, and France, of misusing the Security Council to push political agendas rather than engaging in genuine discussions on nuclear non-proliferation.
Iran reiterated that its nuclear program remains peaceful and that it continues to uphold its obligations under the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). The Iranian envoy emphasized that diplomacy should remain the primary path forward and warned against the politicization of technical nuclear issues. He also confirmed that Iran is engaged in negotiations with European nations and maintains diplomatic consultations with Russia and China. While expressing openness to dialogue, Iran firmly rejected any pressure or coercion in the negotiations.
