United States: Unemployment Rate Edges Up to 4.1%

WASHINGTON, March 7, 2025 – The United States experienced a smaller-than-expected increase in job growth for February, leading to a slight rise in the unemployment rate, which now stands at 4.1%, as reported by the Labor Department on Friday.

In February, 151,000 jobs were created, marking an improvement from January’s revised total of 125,000. However, this figure fell short of analysts’ expectations, who had forecasted approximately 170,000 new jobs, according to consensus data released by MarketWatch.

In February of the previous year, the nation’s economy added 222,000 jobs, while the unemployment rate was recorded at 4% in January.

The report also indicated a decline in federal government employment, with a loss of 10,000 jobs in February.
