Zakharova: Macron Should Apologize for Deceiving the French Public on Minsk Agreements

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has called on French President Emmanuel Macron to apologize to the French public for misleading them about past efforts to resolve the Ukraine conflict and for France’s own violations of the Minsk agreements.
Responding to Macron’s claim that Russia violated the accords, Zakharova suggested he invite former French President François Hollande for a candid discussion. She pointed out that Hollande had already admitted publicly that France never intended to implement the Minsk agreements. She also recalled that both Hollande and former German Chancellor Angela Merkel had acknowledged that the accords were never meant to be fulfilled but rather served a different strategic purpose.
Zakharova argued that once Macron understands this reality, he “will have to apologize to his own people for deceiving them.”
