Trump Confirms Ukraine’s Willingness to Sign Minerals and Security Deal

US President Donald Trump stated during his first joint address to Congress since returning to office that a letter from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed Ukraine’s readiness to come to the negotiating table as soon as possible to achieve lasting peace. He added, “Nobody wants peace more than the Ukrainians.”
Trump quoted Zelenskyy as saying, “My team and I stand ready to work under President Trump’s strong leadership to get a peace that lasts. We truly value how much America has done to help Ukraine maintain its sovereignty.” He also emphasized Kyiv’s willingness to sign an agreement on minerals and security at any time convenient for the US.
The US president noted ongoing discussions with Russia, saying, “We’ve had serious discussions with Russia and received strong signals that they are ready for peace. Wouldn’t that be beautiful?”
Ukraine has not yet officially confirmed the letter. Earlier, Zelenskyy expressed regret over his tense meeting with Trump at the White House last week, writing on X that “the meeting did not go as expected, and it is time to make things right by ensuring constructive cooperation in the future.”
