Algerian PM Hosts AMF Chairman to Discuss Financial Cooperation

Algerian Prime Minister Nadir Larbaoui welcomed Dr. Fahad Bin Mohamed Alturki, the Director General and Chairman of the Board of the Arab Monetary Fund (AMF), on Thursday at the Government Palace during his working visit to Algeria, according to a communiqué from the Prime Minister’s office.

The meeting, which also included the Minister of Finance, Abdelkrim Bouzred, provided an opportunity to review the relationship between Algeria and the AMF. The discussions focused on various aspects of cooperation and joint activities across multiple financial sectors.

Both parties expressed their appreciation for the “particular attention” that President Abdelmadjid Tebboune dedicates to strengthening collective Arab action and supporting its financial institutions. They specifically highlighted his call during the Arab Summit held on November 1, 2022, in Algiers, urging the mobilization of Arab financial resources, particularly from the AMF and existing Arab funds, to assist member countries urgently needing support to navigate challenging circumstances.

In this context, the two sides discussed the AMF’s new strategy and its initiatives aimed at addressing economic and financial changes and challenges within the Arab region while enhancing the Fund’s responsiveness. They underscored the importance of optimizing the use of available resources to promote the Fund’s role as a vital financial institution committed to supporting the sustainable development of its member countries.
