Czech Runner Michel Pozdnocov Wins 25th Sahara Marathon, Pledges Solidarity with Sahrawi Cause

Czech runner Michel Pozdnocov claimed first place in the main race of the 25th Sahara Marathon, completing the 42-kilometer course from the wilaya of El Aaiun to the wilaya of Smara. The event, held annually in the Sahrawi refugee camps, aims to raise awareness about the plight of the Sahrawi people and promote international solidarity.
Following his victory, Pozdnocov expressed his appreciation for the well-organized event and the hospitality of the Sahrawi families. He highlighted the marathon’s humanitarian significance and vowed to advocate for the Sahrawi cause, particularly in his home country, the Czech Republic. This marks his first participation in the prestigious race, and he described the experience as both fulfilling and eye-opening.
The 25th edition of the Sahara Marathon saw participation from approximately 470 runners representing 32 nationalities. The event continues to serve as a powerful platform for raising global awareness about the Sahrawi people’s struggle while fostering solidarity through sports.
