Algeria and US Explore Strengthening Cooperation in Public Works and Infrastructure

ALGIERS — Public Works and Basic Infrastructure Minister Lakhdar Rekhroukh received the President of the US-Algeria Business Council, Samy Boukaila, to examine strengthening bilateral cooperation in Public Works and Infrastructure along with exploring investment opportunities between the two countries, according to a ministry statement released Tuesday.

During this meeting, held at the ministry headquarters at Boukaila’s request, “the two sides discussed means to enhance bilateral cooperation in Public Works and Infrastructure and to explore investment opportunities between the two countries in this strategic sector,” according to the statement.

The meeting was marked by “a fruitful exchange of views on ways to strengthen joint cooperation, focusing on major infrastructure projects, particularly roads, ports and railways,” the same source added.

On this occasion, the minister affirmed that Algeria “is moving forward with confidence toward developing railway infrastructure, through reinforcing and modernizing railway lines, in implementation of the national railway network investment program, decided by the President of the Republic.”

He further noted the investment opportunities and advantages that Algeria offers to foreign investors.

For his part, the President of the US-Algeria Business Council expressed “the interest and willingness of American companies to invest in this sector, due to a favorable investment climate that can open broad prospects for the exchange of expertise and the strengthening of economic relations between both countries,” the statement concluded.
