Forced Surrender of Ukraine Would be Surrender of ‘Entire Western Community’, Polish Premier

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has called on Western nations to uphold their support for Ukraine, despite growing signs that U.S. policy under President Donald Trump may take a different direction. In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Tusk warned that forcing Ukraine into surrender would equate to the collapse of the entire Western community. His statement follows Trump’s recent remarks referring to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as a “dictator,” further fueling speculation that Washington may lean toward Moscow in future negotiations.
Trump’s criticism of U.S. support for Ukraine has intensified, with the president arguing on Truth Social that Zelensky, whom he called a “moderately successful comedian,” convinced the U.S. to spend $350 billion on a war that was unwinnable. Trump also questioned why the U.S. had spent “$200 billion more than Europe” on Ukraine, criticizing Biden for failing to secure European compensation. He further accused Zelensky of undermining democracy by not holding presidential elections. Meanwhile, Poland reaffirmed its backing for Ukraine but clarified it would not send troops, unlike the UK, which recently announced its intention to deploy military personnel.
The shift in U.S. rhetoric has raised concerns across Europe, especially as Vice President J.D. Vance recently emphasized that the primary threats to Western civilization come from internal challenges such as free speech restrictions. As diplomatic uncertainty grows, Zelensky is set to meet with Trump’s special envoy, General Keith Kellogg, in Kyiv on Thursday, in what could be a pivotal discussion regarding Ukraine’s future and its relationship with the U.S. under Trump’s leadership.
